EEOC Nominee: Kalpana Kotagal

Kalpana Kotagal
Nominated to be a Member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
Nomination announced: April 1, 2022

Kalpana Kotagal is an attorney with the firm Cohen Milstein, focusing on employment law and specifically diversity, equity, and inclusion.  Kotagal was also a member of the advisory committee of the “People’s Parity Project.”  During her confirmation hearing on May 10, 2022, it was revealed the nominee previously retweeted a post that criticized employers that advocated against unionization.

If confirmed, Kotagal would give Democrats a majority at the EEOC later this year.

Nomination Status: The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee attempted to advance the nomination of Kalpana Kotegal on May 25, 2022.  The vote ended in a 11-11 tie. Since the committee failed to advance the nomination, the full Senate must vote to recall the nomination before the Senate majority can further pursue Kotegal’s confirmation.
