Lisa Gomez is a lawyer with Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP. She has focused on issues involving multiemployer pension plans and health benefit plans.  The position of Assistant Secretary for Employee Benefits Security is charged with managing and enforcing federal policies for private-sector employee health and retirement benefits.  Already during the Biden administration, the Employee Benefits Security Administration has said it would not enforce a Trump administration rule limiting a controversial practice of plan fiduciaries considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria when investing funds from retirement accounts rather than financial considerations.

Nomination Status: The Senate confirmed Lisa Gomez by a vote of 49-36.
