NLRB Nominee: James Murphy
James Murphy was nominated to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on July 17, 2025 to fill a Republican seat with a term expiring on December 16, 2027. A career attorney at the NLRB, Murphy began as a student law clerk in 1974 and has served as counsel to numerous Board members over the decades. Most recently he served as chief counsel to NLRB Chair Marvin Kaplan.
Nomination Status: On December 18, 2025, the U.S. Senate confirmed James Murphy as a Member of the National Labor Relations Board by a vote of 53–43. Murphy’s nomination was considered by the Senate as part of a package of 97 nominations.
