200 Cook County Forest Preserves workers go on strike amid contract dispute
August 17, 2026 // Approximately 200 union workers at the Forest Preserve District of Cook County went on strike on Monday, after rejecting a contract proposal they said doesn't provide sufficient pay raises. Truck drivers, laborers, and mechanics represented by Teamsters Local 700 rejected the district's latest contract offer, saying the district "refused to close a pay gap that leaves them earning far less than workers doing the same or similar jobs elsewhere in Cook County and Illinois state government."
