    UAW locals get marching orders for strike against Big Three

    September 14, 2023 // At 10 p.m. on Thursday, UAW President Shawn Fain announced three locals were selected to start the strike at midnight. Those locals represent Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Stellantis Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio and General Motors Wentzville Assembly Center in Missouri. For the first time in union history all three companies came to the UAW’s Solidarity House downtown Detroit, Fain said. All three automakers have made multiple counteroffers but none of been accepted. Fain says the companies were slow to come to the table at the beginning of negotiations.

    August 1, 2023 // The guild’s negotiating committee, in a message to members, is attempting to clear up those and other misunderstandings. “Some have suggested that the Interim Agreement might prolong the strike, but we disagree,” the message says. “We believe the leverage created by increasing competitive pressure on the AMPTP and denying them what they want most will force them back to the table and help bring this strike to an end.

    Union says it’s ready to continue negotiations as strike enters third day

    February 27, 2023 // The union represents nearly 500 nurses, aides, respiratory therapists, housekeepers, cooks and other workers at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital, which are operated by Maui Health. Workers at the three facilities walked out Wednesday and began picketing after voting to reject Maui Health’s final offer. Maui Health has said that it has a contingency plan that includes staffing areas affected by the striking workers. “This staffing is provided through multiple sources with additional assistance available should the strike continue for an extended time,” the hospital operator said. Maui Health did not respond directly to questions of how many workers have been brought in during the strike and who is handling the striking workers’ roles. However, it emphasized again that it is working to make sure patient care continues.
