ALPA said that to date, this is the largest investment in a pilot contract on a per capita bases and it "substantially raises the bar" when it comes to pilot retirement. “After careful consideration and thorough debate, our union leaders recognized the value this agreement will bring to our pilots and their families,” said MEC chair captain Chris Norman. “Now, we shift our focus to ensuring our pilots have the time and resources needed to make an informed decision.”

    FedEx Announces Company Restructure As Pilots Picket

    April 6, 2023 // FedEx Corporation will consolidate its operating companies into one unified organization, “Federal Express Corporation,” a restructuring it says will help streamline operations and enable a distinct focus on air and international volume. FedEx called the consolidation an important step in its “DRIVE” transformation, which seeks to reduce costs to the tune of $4 billion by the end of fiscal 2025, including $1.3 billion in its air network and international operations. The company’s April 5 investor call announcing the changes came as FedEx Express pilots picketed on Wall Street over continued contract negotiations that began in May 2021. As part of the executive changes effective April 16, FedEx Ground President and CEO John Smith will become president and CEO of U.S. and Canada Ground Operations at FedEx Express and assume leadership of surface operations across the FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight businesses. Additionally, Richard Smith will begin serving as president and CEO, Airline and International at FedEx Express, overseeing all other regions and FedEx Logistics.

    FedEx pilot union inches closer to strike with unanimous approval for authorization vote

    February 22, 2023 // A statement by pilot leaders says FedEx customers should plan alternative means in the event of a pilot strike. Only a few items for negotiation remain, the statement says. The update comes a month after the Southwest Airlines pilots’ union called a vote to authorize a potential strike after souring contract negotiations. Delta Air Lines pilots also voted to authorize a potential strike in November.

    United Pilots ‘Overwhelmingly’ Reject New Airline Contract

    Delta Air pilots vote to authorize strike

    November 2, 2022 // Pilots at Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) have voted to authorize a strike if negotiators cannot reach agreement on a new employment contract, their union said on Monday. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents nearly 15,000 pilots at the Atlanta-based carrier, said 99% of those who cast their ballots backed strike-authorization. Under U.S. law, Delta pilots cannot walk off the job until the National Mediation Board grants them permission.

    Sun Country fleet service workers could follow airline’s pilots, mechanics by unionizing

    October 5, 2022 // Fleet service employees could join other groups who gained new representation in the last few years, including its pilots, who Air Line Pilots Association, International said were the “lowest-paid pilots in the industry” before the Dec. 2021 deal. Sun Country maintenance mechanics were certified with Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association this past summer and are expected to negotiate a first collective bargaining agreement for the group in the near future, according to the union.
