April 17, 2025 // Among Local 571’s demands are record wage increases, pensions for all members, a cost-of-living adjustment, profit sharing and better health care benefits. In the meantime, Local 571 members are working under the terms of their expired agreement. Electric Boat officials were not immediately available for comment on Monday night. Company officials said in a statement last week that they had “presented our best and final offer” to the union in the previous week. They added that their offer “provides historic wage growth, a continuation of our premium benefits package and retirement enhancement for all employees.”
UAW reaches tentative deal with General Dynamics, preventing strike
October 23, 2023 // Like its peers, General Dynamics has struggled with supply and labor shortages at a time when weapons demand is on the rise due to the war in Ukraine, conflict in the Middle East and tensions in U.S.-China relations over Taiwan. UAW members at the company make military vehicles including tanks and light armored vehicles, according to the union. UAW did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Details of the proposed agreement, which needs to be ratified by UAW workers, were not immediately available.
General Dynamics strike intensifies in first week, remains civil
July 11, 2022 // union strike at General Dynamics Mission Systems in Marion intensified in its first week as members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2850 push the defense contractor for better pay, better insurance and better additional benefits. Workers went on strike over the weekend, even showing up on the Monday holiday to make their presence known. Tuesday evening, after work had resumed, strikers picketed along and across the Johnston Road entrance and at other locations along Brunswick Lane as salaried workers and non-union members left the plant for the day. Local 2850 President Alan Keesee, Tom Crosson,
