Thousands of LA County workers go on strike over alleged unfair labor practices
April 30, 2025 // The strike could impact several services, including the county's non-urgent health clinics, public libraries, wildfire clean-up services, trash pick-up and homeless encampment enforcement. The union is citing 44 unfair labor practices they claim have gone unanswered for six months. They are calling on the county to stop contracting out and instead increase wages and fill vacancies.
LA County prepares libraries for strike this week
April 29, 2025 // The SEIU has 55,000 members across all public sectors of L.A. County, according to its website. The union claims the county has repeatedly violated labor laws and failed to bargain in good faith on issues including a cost-of-living increase and health insurance.
LA County workers’ union sets strike for Oct. 10, while county calls it ‘unwarranted’
September 26, 2024 // A union representing 55,000 Los Angeles County workers announced on Tuesday, Sept. 24 that it has authorized a strike set for Oct. 10, unless county management comes back to the negotiating table. About 1,000 members of the SEIU 721 union came to the Board of Supervisors meeting to inform the county of its decision. Workers that would be affected by a strike are from numerous county departments, including: Children & Family Services, Mental Health, Public Health, Public Social Services, Parks & Recreation, Beaches & Harbors, LA County Library, Clerk/Registrar-Recorder, County Coroner and Unincorporated Street Services.
