Penn graduate student workers could strike next month
January 14, 2026 // Penn, the largest employer in Philadelphia, has seen a wave of student-worker organizing in recent years, including resident assistants, graduate students, postdocs and research associates, as well as training physicians in the University of Pennsylvania Health System. The region has also seen a couple other university strikes in recent years. In 2023 graduate workers at Temple University walked off the job for 42 days amid contract negotiations, and in a separate action at Rutgers University, educators, researchers, and clinicians went on strike for a week.

November 7, 2025 // To Fain, anything shy of total job security is not good enough. The current negotiations at Volkswagen remain stalled over a clause in Volkswagen's current offer that stipulates the company will not close the plant or cut jobs "unless conditions beyond the control of the company arise that make compliance with this commitment impractical." "American workers live in fear," Fain said. "Fear that if they ask for a dollar more, the boss is going to fire them or move the damn plant. That's economic terrorism."
Union Boss Under Fire as Atlantic City Casino Smoking Battle Heats Up
December 6, 2024 // Ray Jensen, assistant director of United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9, called for the resignation of Donna DeCaprio, president of Local 54 Unite Here, accusing her of failing to protect casino workers from the dangers of secondhand smoke. Jensen's union represents dealers at three Atlantic City casinos and is currently involved in litigation to end smoking in gambling establishments.
Facing Decertification Vote, UAW Quickly Settles Contract At NJ Nissan Facility
April 20, 2024 // If the election moves forward, and the majority of employees decide to keep the UAW, through their attorneys at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, it would seem that the employees opposed to union representation could object to the company and union settling a contract as interfering with their right to ‘free and fair’ election. However, if employees do object, given the pro-union nature of the current National Labor Relations Board, it remains a question whether election interference by a union would constitute grounds for setting aside the election.
