    Streetcar Workers Unionize

    February 11, 2025 // The City of Milwaukee’s street car system, called The Hop, is operated by TransDev, a French multinational transportation company. In November, a majority of 26 TransDev employees working out of the city’s streetcar facility at 450 N. 5th St. voted in favor of representation by ATU Local 998, according to National Labor Relations Board records. The union includes operators, maintenance workers, road supervisors, operator supervisors and dispatchers.

    DC-Area Transdev Driver Takes Case Regarding Union-Instigated Assault to Federal Appeals Court

    July 2, 2024 // In a statement filed in November 2021, McLamb said that the ATU Local 689 president, Raymond Jackson, told other union officers to “slap” employees who were opposing his agenda. McLamb later reported in a federal charge that he had been physically assaulted by ATU shop steward Tiyaka Boone. Both incidents occurred while McLamb was campaigning against the incumbent officers to serve on Local 689’s board. McLamb reported in another federal charge that, shortly after this incident, ATU official Alma Williams requested that Transdev management fire him over his criticisms of the union steward that assaulted him.

    Fairfax leaders rapped by union for staying out of fray in strike

    February 29, 2024 // The strike by drivers and mechanics began Feb. 22; next scheduled session between Local 689 and Transdev is slated for March 5. Federal mediators are expected to attend this session, union officials said. While local-government employees in Virginia are prohibited from striking even if they are covered by collective-bargaining agreements, there is no such prohibition on the Fairfax Connector workers since they are employed by a private entity.

    Fairfax Connector ground to halt for fifth day as union workers demand changes

    February 27, 2024 // Early Monday morning, 7News cameras visited all three bus garages in Fairfax, Lorton, and Herndon, Virginia. In contrast to Thursday and Friday, the Fairfax location had no protesters when we arrived, while the Lorton and Herndon locations did have protestors out front. Before the discussion, dozens of unionized workers gathered outside Fairfax Fair Oaks Marriott in Fairfax, Va., where the negotiations are taking place with some chants being heard. The impact on services has left some on social media frustrated, many blaming Transdev and the county while others blamed the Union.

    MTS bus driver strike ends in East County, South Bay after close vote

    June 19, 2023 // Martinez told NBC 7 he voted for the pact because he worries about customers not having the means to survive without bus service. One of his passengers on his route was a woman who rode the bus three times a week to get dialysis, Martinez said. When she didn’t have transportation to her dialysis appointment she got sick and wound up in the hospital. Martinez said the woman died. “It was a real sad story that got me because I used to know this person personally and it’s just a sign of how this is impacting us and the community," Martinez added. After the votes were counted, driver Erika Lopez was seen doing a happy dance. She said she’s happy to get back to work.

    Union workers of Teamsters 542 are on strike

    April 27, 2023 // Teamsters 542 say that the strike will be ongoing until further notice. For now, the busses are being operated by management and supervisors of First Transit, leaving about four to five operating buses in the Valley. With an estimate of a two-hour wait at the bus stops.

    DDOT Warns Of Circulator Driver Strike Amid Stalled Labor Negotiations

    May 2, 2022 // In a statement Thursday evening, DDOT said it is working with RATP Dev, the private company contracted by the city to run the Circulator, on an “adjusted plan for limited service” in the case of strike. DDOT added that it remains “optimistic” that RATP Dev can reach an agreement with ATU Local 689, the union representing Circulator operators.
