    Harris County becomes first in Texas to allow employees to organize with new ‘consultation policy’

    March 19, 2026 // Harris County commissioners voted 3-1 Thursday to let many county workers choose a labor organization to advocate for workplace policy changes, elevate grievances and make recommendations to Commissioners Court. The "employee consultation policy" does not permit employees to engage in collective bargaining, which state law blocks most government employees in Texas from doing. Government employees in Texas cannot strike.

    Union County teachers hold ‘sick-out’ to protest amid pay supplement saga

    October 23, 2025 // Tuesday, the Union County Public Schools Finance Committee worked through a plan to fund the $1,000 supplement this school year. UCPS Chief Finance Officer Shanna McLamb explained the plan would cost roughly $3.8 million and amount to about $100 more per month for teachers. Some parents say the pay issue has a direct impact on students.

    OHIO: County AFL-CIO asks commissioners to back Harris radio system

    February 7, 2023 // Commissioner Michelle Hung and former commissioner Matt Lundy voted Dec. 21 to approve the nearly $8 million contract, using a portion of Lorain County's share of American Rescue Plan Act funds. Moore and Riddell voted to rescind the contract Jan. 9, saying the bid process was improper and may have been interfered with by Hung. The later accusation is under investigation by the state Auditor's Office. In response, CCI filed a breach of contract lawsuit and the union representing Lorain County sheriff's deputies filed a grievance that appears headed for arbitration.
