    Labor Watch: Harvard Grad Students End 40-Day Strike

    June 3, 2026 // he Harvard Graduate Students Union announced Monday that its 40-day strike has ended “with the close of the academic year,” though the union has still not reached a bargaining agreement with the university. The strike—the longest in the union’s history—spanned the end-of-semester grading period and university commencement, which wrapped on Friday. Over the last several weeks, the university offered to expand benefits to all graduate student workers, provide dental coverage for Ph.D. students and increase its four-year raise proposal by 1 percent, the union said in a news release. These moves were the “first indication of engagement” from the university on the union’s priorities, the release said.

    November 29, 2025 // DENVER — “¡Sí, se puede! ¡Sí, se puede!” More than 50 people chanted the phrase — which means “yes, it can be done” in Spanish — outside the Denver nonprofit Re:Vision Tuesday morning. The crowd gathered in the cold to listen to current and former Re:Vision employees and union organizers speak about the leadership of Re:Vision’s executive director Mariana del Hierro. Re:Vision is a food equity nonprofit in Westwood, a predominantly Latino and immigrant community.

    Salt Lake Tribune journalists launch campaign to unionize

    July 19, 2024 // Staffers have filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board, but say they will withdraw the request if the the Salt Lake News Guild is voluntarily recognized as a union by July 19. If a union vote moves forward and the majority of employees approve, labor contract negotiations can start. The Salt Lake guild is working with the Denver Newspaper Guild and Communications Workers of America.

    Planned Parenthood Northern California Workers Unionize With SEIU Local 1021

    April 17, 2024 // “It’s been really something that has been a long time coming; we’ve been waiting for it with bated breath,” said Debbie Nguyen, a Planned Parenthood Northern California clinician in Oakland. “We’ve been going back and forth with them to work on getting recognized for months now.” A federal mediator confirmed that a supermajority of Planned Parenthood Northern California workers — 77% — had voted to join SEIU Local 1021 during Friday’s “card check,” in which employees who are part of a bargaining unit sign “cards” that state and authorize their wish for union representation.
