These questionable activities landed NJEA in court with a lawsuit alleging that the union misled its members, including Dupont, who is a lead plaintiff.
Salt Lake Tribune journalists launch campaign to unionize
July 19, 2024 // Staffers have filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board, but say they will withdraw the request if the the Salt Lake News Guild is voluntarily recognized as a union by July 19. If a union vote moves forward and the majority of employees approve, labor contract negotiations can start. The Salt Lake guild is working with the Denver Newspaper Guild and Communications Workers of America.
Pennsylvania state court rules against union in worker dispute
February 27, 2024 // “AFSCME officials thought they could get away with sabotaging Penny’s grievance and openly discriminating against her, but the Commonwealth Court has ensured her complaint will be heard,” he said. “Union officials didn’t want to represent our client because she wasn’t a union member, but Pennsylvania law says public-sector unions have a duty to fairly represent everyone in a bargaining union – members and nonmembers alike."
