‘The Pitt’ Production Assistants Launch Landmark Unionization Drive (Exclusive)

July 28, 2025 // Production Assistants United claims that a “supermajority” of the show’s production assistants and assistants has signed union authorization cards. That was accomplished, they say, due to guerrilla organizing tactics inspired in part by the successful union drive at Amazon’s Staten Island fulfillment center. For a few weeks, organizers have pitched a tent outside of a parking structure adjacent to the Warner Bros. studio lot where crew members and background actors tend to park. Arriving as early as 4:45 a.m. in the morning and leaving as late as 8 p.m. at night, the group says they’ve struck up conversations with all manner of crew members on The Pitt, who were easily recognizable because they were wearing scrubs (donned by The Pitt workers in case they are caught on camera).

That compares to a recent high of 25 recorded major work stoppages in 2019 and 23 last year.

June 23, 2023 // The event ended with some sharp words from Dougherty, the Teamsters Local 399 leader whose profile has skyrocketed during the strike due to her unwavering support of the writers and the fact that many of her members have refused to cross their picket lines. “The studios and the tech companies wanted to push you guys down and try and break you. But guess what? We’re not gonna let that happen. None of us. No fucking way.” Pointing to the La Brea Tar Pits museum, she called the setting for the rally “fitting,” as it showcases some extinct species and, “I think what we need to do with the AMPTP is make them fucking extinct.”

Hollywood writers vote on whether to give negotiators power to call strike

April 17, 2023 // The strike authorization vote is meant to turn up the heat on companies such as Netflix Inc (NFLX.O) and Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) and convince them to raise the pay for writers, who say their compensation has suffered because of the streaming revolution, which resulted in shorter TV seasons and smaller residual payments.
