    Arrests, injuries reported at C&H Sugar refinery strike line in Crockett

    July 23, 2026 // In a statement, a C&H spokesperson said, "Union members outside our gates are engaged in reckless and unsafe actions, endangering the health and safety of drivers, independent contractors and their fellow employees as well as unlawfully blocking commerce in and out of our refinery." The statement continued: "We call on the ILWU to stop the reckless, dangerous and illegal activity, and come to the table to finalize an agreement." As deputies continued ordering people to leave the area Tuesday, union leaders said the two injured workers were members of Local 10. One worker was transported to Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center for treatment.

    California union leader pleads not guilty to charges after LA ICE protest arrest

    December 2, 2025 // According to a Homeland Security Investigation officer's sworn affidavit, Huerta sat in front of a vehicular gate to a staging ground for ICE operations that were ongoing nearby. The officer claims Huerta refused orders to clear the scene and asked fellow protesters to join him in blocking the gate. The interaction turned physical, DHS claims, and Huerta was briefly hospitalized as a result. Gov. Gavin Newsom denounced his arrest and called Huerta a "respected leader, a patriot, and an advocate for working people."

    December 30, 2024 // It hasn't been without issue, as one striker was arrested at the picket line Dec. 17 and charged with six misdemeanors including hindering a passageway, intoxicated public disturbance, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Joshua Westcott, from Conowingo, has a Jan. 15 trial date.

    October 19, 2023 // A month after Miami Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla was arrested on charges of trading a vote for hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations and gifts, it hasn’t cost him the support of Miami’s men and women in blue. In June, Miami’s Fraternal Order of Police announced it was putting its considerable political heft behind Diaz de la Portilla, a former state representative who was once chosen politician of the year by the union. And Monday — a month after Diaz de la Portilla’s Sept. 14 arrest — the union’s president made it clear that as far as he was concerned, nothing had changed. “There are two kinds of people that are always presumed guilty before innocent, cops and politicians,” said FOP President Felix Del Rosario.

    Strike ends as Teamsters vote 215-2 for new deal with Sysco Boston

    October 21, 2022 // “Corporations will fear the Teamsters,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said in the statement. “Their ability to hold down our members is over. The Teamsters are ending it. Any company that bullies workers will be met with the full firepower of this union. Our momentum cannot be stopped. We still have open contracts around the country, and we will strike again and again to protect our members.” “As a result, and as part of the Sysco Boston agreement, the company agreed to withdraw all of its lawsuits and [National Labor Relations Board] charges,” the statement continued.
