Research shows unions generally raise salaries and make teachers more likely to stay in the classroom.

    November 17, 2025 // “While it’s unfortunate that the union leaders have rejected our generous economic proposal, our highest priority is making sure our patients continue to receive outstanding care should a strike actually occur,” Rita Essaian, DM, MHA, senior vice president and chief people officer at Sharp, said in a statement. “If a strike takes place, it’s important for San Diegans to know that we will ensure adequate staffing levels at all times with Sharp staff and the specially trained traveling nurses.”

    Homeland Security ends collective bargaining agreement with TSA workers

    March 10, 2025 // In its announcement Friday, the TSA said it found that nearly 200 employees were working on union matters full-time while collecting a government salary — claims disputed by the union. Under federal law, employees serving as union representatives are entitled to devote part of their work time to union matters in a manner that is “reasonable, necessary, and in the public interest.” Trump implemented a similar reporting requirement during his first term, but it appears to have stopped during President Joe Biden’s time in office.

    Creature Comforts Employees Organize Independent Union

    January 23, 2023 // After meeting with Broderick Flanigan, Joseph Carter, Enrique Reyna and others at the workers’ center, an innovative strategy was devised to create BUG as an independent union not under the umbrella of a pre-existing national union. Historically, most unions have formed under the aegis of a national union such as the Teamsters, the United Auto Workers and the like. But BUG opted for the novel approach seen in the last couple years with Amazon and Starbucks workers who have led the way in establishing new, independent unions. BUG’s approach captures Athens’ independent spirit, following in the footsteps of the independent artists and record labels that put the city on the map.
