    October 15, 2023 // Faculty at Illinois State University have filed their “intent to unionize” with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. The union effort started in August and organizers say an overwhelming majority of 650 tenured and tenure-track faculty signed on to become members of the United Faculty of ISU.

    Chicago teachers file unfair labor charge against teachers union

    April 14, 2023 // Several rank-and-file members of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) officially filed an unfair labor practice charge against the union for allegedly funneling membership dues to the union’s political action committee (PAC) without their approval. The money was used to support CTU-endorsed mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson. The CTU’s Members First Caucus filed the complaint with the Illinois’ Educational Labor Relations Board and demanded that the dues payments to PACs stop immediately. The caucus noted the complaint filing is not about politics, rather it is over CTU’s alleged deceit to funnel their union membership dues to a mayoral candidate that the caucus members do not support.

    ILLINOIS: EIU faculty, staff union voting on strike after year at bargaining table

    February 28, 2023 // The EIU University Professionals of Illinois IFT Local 4100 union, which represents advisors, recruiters, annually contracted faculty, faculty, counselors, and lab coordinators, will vote to authorize a strike on March 8-9 after nearly one year of bargaining and little movement in mediation. The primary issues on the bargaining table are salary and workload demands that directly impact the availability of service to students. The Illinois Federation of Teachers said that a “yes” vote would give the EIU UPI bargaining team the power to file official strike authorization paperwork with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board if no agreement can be made at the bargaining table.

    City Colleges of Chicago teachers union prepares to set strike date for faculty and staff who are still without a contract agreement

    October 24, 2022 // The union authorized a strike by a vote of more than 1,000 members on Oct. 6. with 92% of them voting in favor. The CCCTU has two negotiating teams representing professional staff and faculty. Contracts for both groups expired in July.
