Milwaukee police union leader says he’s considering asking Trump to send Guard troops to the city

September 8, 2025 // The discussion of National Guard troops in Milwaukee comes after President Donald Trump sent thousands of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles in June to quell protests. Last month, he deployed troops across Washington, D.C., and has threatened to make similar moves in Chicago.

NEW YORK: Health insurance ending for corrections officers still on strike; National Guard still deployed

March 4, 2025 // The New York State Conservative Party Chairman, Gerard Kassar, released a statement saying in part, “New York State Corrections Officers are striking because the Hochul Administration has failed to adequately protect officers, male and female, from years of inmate assaults spurred on by lax progressive ‘reforms.’ Now, because she failed to do her job protecting state employees, Governor Hochul is erroneously citing the Taylor Law to fire longstanding Corrections Officers, stripping their families of both income and healthcare benefits. It’s outrageous.”

NY reaches tentative deal to end prison strike by suspending anti-solitary confinement law

March 2, 2025 // A law restricting the use of solitary confinement in New York’s prisons would remain partly suspended for 90 days if corrections officers accept a tentative agreement the state reached with their union to end an ongoing wildcat strike. There will be no departmental discipline for any of the thousands of corrections officers if they return to work by Saturday, according to a memo the governor released. The agreement also includes provisions to reduce mandated overtime, increase the overtime pay rate and temporarily hire retired corrections officers to assist in transporting incarcerated people.

Op-ed: SCOTUS should halt rogue labor board’s power grab in Ohio

February 2, 2023 // Americans for Fair Treatment, a community of public employees concerned about the potential for union officials to abuse their power, filed an amicus brief in solidarity with the technicians whose constitutional rights are under threat. Thousands of other similarly situated employees could also be harmed if the status quo stands. The FLRA further seeks to force Ohio’s adjutant general to post and email notices saying he agrees with the board’s position, and to require technicians to view that compelled speech. That order not only raises serious First Amendment issues of compelled speech, but also undermines federalism itself. By striking down the actions of the rogue labor board, the Supreme Court can rein in out-of-control bureaucrats while reinforcing the principle that Americans should not be forced to financially support a union against their will.

Supreme Court to Ponder Union Rights for National Guard Techs

January 10, 2023 // The US Supreme Court will hear oral argument over whether to strip federal-sector labor law rights from the National Guard’s dual-status technicians, a unique type of federal employee who works for state militias. The justices on Monday will review a federal appeals court decision blessing the Federal Labor Relations Authority’s jurisdiction over a dispute stemming from the Ohio National Guard’s attempt to oust an American Federation of Government Employees affiliate that represents Guard technicians. The high court is hearing Ohio’s bid to evade federal oversight—an obstacle to ejecting the AFGE affiliate—despite agreement among all six federal appeals courts that have ruled on the issue.

November 16, 2021 // Labor unions filed a lawsuit on Monday to challenge a federal statute that makes it a felony for members of the armed forces to participate in union activities or to support labor organizing in their ranks. The suit is specifically intended to win collective bargaining rights for members of the Connecticut National Guard.
