Op-ed: Senators should ignore this anti-Trump bill
January 11, 2026 // Taxpayers spent over $200 million in 2024 alone on official time, despite the fact that unions are overtly political organizations that almost exclusively support the Democratic party and its priorities. By taking on union bosses’ time-wasting “bargaining” activities, Trump’s executive orders are helping the government operate more efficiently.
Editorial: Unions share blame for layoff fallout
November 1, 2025 // "To date, the Stamford law firm of Silver Golub & Teitell has been paid $50.8 million for representing the unions and the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition, according to the state comptroller's office," Mr. Hughes wrote. "The settlement set attorney fees at 17.5% of the total damages each class member receives," extrapolating "to roughly $290 million in compensatory and economic damages." Union attorney Jonathan M. Levine figured the actual payouts amounted to between $190 million and $215 million.
Caregivers sue state over ‘false’ public employee classification
October 20, 2025 // The practice drew widespread condemnation when the Mackinac Center brought it to light early in the previous decade. But the SEIU refused to accept defeat after the Legislature ended the practice. The union struck back with a 2012 ballot initiative that failed by a 56% to 44% vote. Following that failure, SEIU used various means to keep alive the idea that home care workers are employees of the government. Gretchen Whitmer quietly enacted laws classifying home care workers as public employees and opening caregivers’ personal records to the union. As happened in 2005, the SEIU got its win, but with a very small vote.

Lendo was no longer serving as president of the union in May, according to the Department of Labor. As recently as August, Lendo listed the VA as his employer when giving $150 to the AFGE’s political action committee.
Op-ed: A ‘Fairness Initiative’ to Tackle Too-High Government-Employee Pay
March 29, 2024 // You probably don’t recall those compensation discussions because you were not part of them. The “negotiations” to set pay and benefits for government employees, which are conducted between two groups of government employees, tend to be resolved quickly and with alarming amicability. On one side of the table are union officials representing government workers. On the other side are government employees representing you and your fellow taxpayers. You did not choose those representatives. In all likelihood, you are unaware that they are representing you. They were chosen for you by Joe Biden. And when the two parties get down to hard bargaining, there is no unseemly discord. Not a single fistfight has been reported.
