Holy Family Hospital’s Allied Health Professionals Consider Union
June 12, 2025 // Markman said the hospital’s human resources department sent a flier to those eligible to vote seeking to undermine the unionizing campaign. The flier, “Collective Bargaining Union Promises vs. the Facts,” says that unions make promises they have no power to enforce. “Under a union contract, you could end of with the same, more or less than you have now,” it reads. Markman said the nurses union is evaluating whether the flier rises to the level of an unfair labor practice. In the meantime, the union countered with its own flier.
CVS, Walgreens pharmacists move to unionize
November 14, 2023 // The latest pharmacist walkout, originally dubbed “Pharmageddon” over fear of a widespread walkout with large ramifications, took place last week but ended up having minimal participation and impact. A Walgreens spokesperson told Reuters the protest closed only three pharmacies temporarily. CVS Chief Executive Karen Lynch told Reuters some workers called in sick at a few stores but there were no closures or disruption in service.

A spokesperson for the United Food and Commercial Workers union, which represents more than 4,400 workers at Walgreens stores in markets around the country, could not be reached for comment on the walkouts. Last month, workers at three Walgreens stores in Northeast Ohio voted to form their own union, called Pharmacy Workers United, according to a report from Axios Cleveland.
More than 75,000 Kaiser Permanente workers threaten strike if labor agreement not reached
September 25, 2023 // The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions warned Kaiser that more than 75,000 workers will strike in early October if an agreement is not reached by the end of next week. The unions say understaffing has led to dangerous wait times for patients. Kaiser Permanente is the largest nonprofit health-care organization in the U.S. serving nearly 13 million patients. Kaiser has called the unions’ claims misleading and urged employees to resist a call for a strike.
