    Unionized nursing homes in deep-blue state trail the pack as analysis reveals ratings gap

    May 28, 2026 // California nursing homes with unionized staff received lower average federal quality ratings than facilities without confirmed union presence, according to a new report. "Union presence in a CMS-certified registered home appears to lower its CMS rating by almost 10 percent," a new report published by the Center for Union Facts (CUF), a right-of-center organization critical of organized labor, reviewed by Fox News Digital found. The Department of Health and Human Services, through its Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, scores nursing homes on a five-star scale based on how well they perform on health inspections, the number of staff present relative to patients, how much care patients are provided and the overall quality of care residents receive.

    40,000 UC workers threaten statewide strike across hospitals, campuses, dining halls

A Mount Sinai spokesperson said, "Unfortunately, NYSNA decided to move forward with its strike while refusing to move on from its extreme economic demands, which we cannot agree to, but we are ready with 1,400 qualified and specialized nurses – and prepared to continue to provide safe patient care for as long as this strike lasts."

Fortunately for the public, labor unions file publicly-available documents detailing exactly how much they spend on “representational activities” every year. In 2024, SEIU-UHW spent just over a third of its revenue on “representational activities” – the union’s “core mission.”

    Another 200 Legacy Nurses Join Oregon Nurses Association (AFT affiliate)

    July 20, 2025 // The new members work in Legacy’s “resource pool,” meaning they rotate among hospitals, filling in as needed in various departments. They filed union authorization cards with the National Labor Relations Board in May and voted 109-16 to join the ONA on July 8, according to the NLRB. Including the new members, more than 3,200 Legacy nurses are now part of the ONA. The surge marks a turnaround for organized labor at Legacy, where unions have had far less clout than at Oregon Health & Science University. The union has been adding members at Legacy since August 2023, when OHSU announced its intent to buy Legacy, a deal that was supported by union leaders before it collapsed in May. The vote by resource pool nurses shows that union membership is still enticing as Legacy goes it alone.

    In unusual move, doctors vote to unionize at N.J. healthcare giant

    May 5, 2025 // A group of doctors who work for both RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers University voted to unionize earlier this week, union officials said. The physicians — who work for Rutgers 10% of the time and RWJBarnabas 90% of the time — were hired as “clinically focused university practitioners,” or CFUP. They are both physicians and faculty members at the state university.
