Councilman seeks contract fix for JTRAN union workers

July 21, 2026 // JTRAN workers on strike say they are expected to meet with a mediator later this month in hopes of reaching an agreement and ending the labor dispute. Union members told 16 WAPT they are scheduled to meet with a mediator on July 31.
JTRAN bus operators strike as contract talks break down
July 13, 2026 // JTRAN bus operators in Jackson, Mississippi, went on strike after contract negotiations with MV Transportation failed. The union accuses the company of unfair labor practices, while the city is working to minimize service disruptions for riders. MV Transportation has brought in out-of-state drivers to continue operating as many bus routes as possible. This is the second strike by JTRAN workers in less than two years, following a 14-day walkout in 2024.
Jackson Hole Ski Patrol Vote Against Unionization Remains Unresolved After Ballot Challenges
January 14, 2026 // In a social media statement Jan. 10, the Jackson Hole Ski Patrol said the team “has chosen as a group not to unionize at this time,” and that the petition and vote “created space for dialogue and gave new ownership the opportunity to listen and respond.” The patrol also thanked the ski community for its support. Across four voting sessions Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, 74 eligible ballots were counted: 42 against unionization and 32 in favor of it, according to local reporting. A total of 16 challenged ballots have been set aside for NLRB review before certification of the vote can occur.
Striking Genesys nurses launch effort to unionize other Henry Ford hospitals
October 3, 2025 // The strike at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, which began Sept. 1, centers on disputes over nurse-to-patient ratios, wages, and health insurance costs. Striking nurses claim there are unsafe staffing levels at the hospital, with some nurses caring for up to 11 patients at once. Henry Ford Health cites financial losses at Genesys and describes the unionization efforts as a recruitment tactic.
MICHIGAN: Labor unions praise ‘responsible bidder’ ordinances while contractors warn of workforce shortages
July 30, 2025 // But contractors say some elements of the plan would unfairly impact local bidders. Jeremiah Leyba is the director of engineering for the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, which represents more than 500 companies in Michigan. He says not all contractors can easily access federal apprenticeship programs and also rely on trade school diplomas, community college degrees and industry certifications for workforce development. “The city of Lansing would be excluding bidders that are highly qualified, and with dwindling workforces across the state, it is an exclusion no municipality can responsibly afford,” Leyba said. Several localities in Michigan already have responsible bidder ordinances in place, including Jackson, Royal Oak and Detroit.
Freight Company Worker Wins More Than $10,500 for Being Illegally Fired for Not Joining Teamsters Union
August 26, 2022 // Back pay award ends case against employer, federal charge against union for instigating illegal termination still under NLRB investigation Jackson, MN (August 25, 2022) – Jannie Potgieter, who was a freight employee at industrial park USF Holland in Jackson, Minnesota, filed federal charges against the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 120 union and his employer in May for illegally terminating him for exercising his right not be a union member. Now Mr. Potgieter has received approximately $10,512 in back pay from USF Holland in exchange for dropping the charge against the company. The charge against the union for union officials’ role in the illegal termination is still pending.
