    August 10, 2026 // The union said bargaining efforts began on June 8, with the locals calling for simultaneous negotiations on new agreements. However, the Teamsters alleged that CalPortland, instead, scheduled separate bargaining sessions for each local. It claimed that only two bargaining days per month from August to November were allotted. The union argued that the proposed schedule delays negotiations until after the busy summer construction season, when many ready-mix projects have already been completed.

The drivers voted to join the Teamsters Local 853 last year after allegations of payroll issues and unsafe working conditions were not addressed. In July, the drivers will have to vote again to keep their union.

A group of freight drivers at Home Depot in San Jose, California, have overwhelmingly voted to remove the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 853 union from their workplace. The workers’ decertification petition was filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 32 with free legal representation from National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation staff attorneys.
