    Sharp Grossmont Hospital Workers Claim ‘Huge Win’ in Vote to Unionize

    February 16, 2023 // The vote – 55% of workers supported joining SEIU-UHW – applies to a variety of healthcare job classes, including licensed vocational nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory care practitioners, pharmacy technicians, imaging assistants, certified phlebotomy technicians, healthcare partners, surgical technologists, unit clerks and other frontline workers. This is the fourth group of healthcare workers in the San Diego area to join SEIU-UHW recently. Workers at three Fresenius dialysis clinics voted to join the union last month. Union officials argued that healthcare workers at Sharp Grossmont have struggled with staffing shortages, safety concerns and below-market wages even as their jobs became more dangerous due to the pandemic.

    Union Staffers End Strike Against Union They Work For

    November 16, 2022 // The striking SEIU staff members belong to another union, Pacific Northwest Staff Union Chapter 2015, and they went on strike through this union. PNWSU's 130 members work for SEIU as call center operators, research analysts, IT workers and labor organizers. Shortly before the strike began, PNWSU leaders released an open letter to "elected officials and political allies," which explained the reason its members intended to stay off the job.
