Opinion: The Teamsters Return to Ugly Type
September 9, 2026 // Video footage we’ve seen shows Teamsters blocking a motorcyclist who worked for an Amazon contractor from entering the facility. The worker circled around and tried to bypass their blockade, but in the process knocked down two protesters and crashed on his bike. Teamsters then beat him up as he lay on the ground. The motorcyclist and the two protesters who were knocked down were hospitalized. It may have been imprudent for the worker to try to circumvent the protesters, but he was trying to make a living by showing up for his job.

August 10, 2026 // The union said bargaining efforts began on June 8, with the locals calling for simultaneous negotiations on new agreements. However, the Teamsters alleged that CalPortland, instead, scheduled separate bargaining sessions for each local. It claimed that only two bargaining days per month from August to November were allotted. The union argued that the proposed schedule delays negotiations until after the busy summer construction season, when many ready-mix projects have already been completed.
Pharmacists authorize possible strike vs. Vons, other chains
July 19, 2026 // The UFCW further said that bargaining has been ongoing for four months under an expired contract. The UFCW represents nearly 800 pharmacists who work at Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons and Pavilions in California which would include Vons locations in East Hollywood, Echo Park, Eagle Rock, and an Albertsons in Los Feliz.

February 18, 2026 // Last month, the union first authorized a strike, with 82% of its members in favor. The staff union, made up of over 100 workers across legal, communications, residuals and other departments, was formed last spring and contract negotiations began in September. The bargaining has focused on concerns about the growth and use of artificial intelligence, pay raises and “basic protections” like grievance procedures.

February 16, 2026 // At dispute is an interpretation in the collectively bargained contract between the union and the CSU. The parties agreed that the salary increases were contingent on the state delivering funding through a five-year compact with the CSU, which included annual 5% increases. The state budget included a 3% reduction, about $144 million. It also included a one-time, $144 million, zero-interest loan that is to be paid back by July 1, 2026. The loan, according to the CSU, was offered to help bridge a temporary deferral of ongoing base funding until 2026–27. The union believes the CSU is fully funded, with the loan. The CSU believes that because the loan must be repaid, it cannot be used to support ongoing salary increases. It authorized the use of the loan for one-time payments to employees, subject to the collective bargaining process.
Unions representing 40k academic, research UC employees announce strike vote
January 13, 2026 // Unions representing about 40,000 academic and research employees across the UC announced Monday that they plan to hold an authorization vote Feb. 5 to 13 for an unfair labor practice strike. United Auto Workers Local 4811, Research and Public Service Professionals-UAW and Student Services and Academic Professionals-UAW announced the vote in a joint Instagram post. A website for the three unions said demands for their workers include job security, opportunities for career advancement and protections for international workers.
Majority of Starbucks’ striking baristas are returning to work

NIHD and AFSCME Reach Agreement, Averting Strike and Ending Labor Dispute
December 15, 2025 // Northern Inyo Healthcare District and AFSCME Local 315 have released details regarding a labor agreement made, following a lengthy state-mediated bargaining session held December 9. Union members voted Thursday to ratify the proposal, formally averting a threatened Unfair Labor Practice strike and resolving the union’s related charge before the Public Employment Relations Board. The vote alleviates tension between the healthcare district and frontline staff, who had authorized a ULP strike leading into the holiday season. Following ratification, the union withdrew its strike notice and the associated unfair practice filing.
