    Florida Legislature approves restrictions on public sector unions

    March 11, 2026 // The measure (SB 1296) would require that public sector labor unions could only be re-certified if at least 50% of all of the employees in the bargaining unit vote and that the vote itself wins 50% plus-one support. Currently, those unions only need a majority of those who voted.

    A bill that changes how union dues and fees are collected is headed to the Governor’s desk

    April 27, 2023 // Lanny Mathis is the President of North Central Florida Central Labor Council who represents nearly 3,000 people. He says payment changes are just one of his concerns. The legislation also proposes to raise union membership from 50% to 60 % of those eligible to join or they could face decertification. The legislation does not effect law enforcement including: fire fighters and correctional officers.

    Free-Market Thought Leaders Urge DeSantis to Take Up Worker Freedom Reforms in Special Session 

    March 30, 2022 // Free-market thought leaders want Governor Ron DeSantis to take up worker freedom issues in a special session of the Florida Legislature, according to an open letter sent to the governor today. The legislation would ensure public employees are made aware of their rights when deciding whether to join a union and are given the opportunity to vote on union representation.
