    Queens immigration nonprofit lays off staff, angering new union

    June 1, 2025 // On March 27, Mendoza and other employees on the New York branch of the nonprofit received an email that there would be layoffs and cuts to working hours. Last week, following two months of deliberations, the nonprofit said they would be moving forward with the layoffs, effective at the end of May. The unionized workers, who belong to a local chapter of the United Auto Workers, are fighting the layoffs, believing they are a direct result of their unionizing efforts and subsequent contract.

    December 19, 2024 // The Teamsters union launched a strike against Amazon that began Thursday morning, and it includes multiple facilities in California, in addition to facilities in New York, Illinois and Georgia. The union says thousands of Amazon workers walked off the job at 6 a.m., right in the middle of the busy holiday shipping season.

    New York Taxi union to strike against Uber and Lyft at LaGuardia airport on Sunday: report

    February 24, 2023 // Anyone traveling into LaGuardia International Airport in Queens, New York and planning to take an Uber or Lyft may want to reconsider their plans, as a union representing all rideshare and Taxi drivers plans to go on strike at the hub for 12 hours on Sunday. The New York Taxi Workers Alliance, which boasts a membership of 25,000 professional drivers, is planning to go on strike at LaGuardia airport on Feb. 26 by refusing to pick up Uber and Lyft rides between 12 p.m. and 12 a.m.

More than a dozen individuals – laborers who sought to earn better pay for their hard work – were allegedly conned by this defendant into giving him cash for entry into the Mason Tenders union. I want to thank the union’s leadership for bringing this case to our attention. The defendant is now charged with serious crimes for taking advantage of others to feed his own greed.”
