    Kansas unions rallied at Statehouse. They’re seeking these 3 policy changes

    January 17, 2025 // Labor unions rallied at the Kansas Statehouse on Tuesday lobbying state lawmakers to increase the minimum wage, increase authority of local governments and reject public school vouchers. The event was attended by about 200 union members under the banner of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, the largest federation of unions in the United States.

    Hundreds of U.S. Steel workers rally in Clairton in support of Nippon deal

    December 14, 2024 // Some speakers took aim at United Steelworkers union leaders, who have maintained opposition to the deal. USW president Dave McCall has continued to say that there aren’t enough guarantees in writing for the company’s union workers. Kurt Barshick, the vice president of U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works, said that the hundreds of workers who showed up for the rally were the true voices of the company’s union workers, and that they favored the deal. He suggested that union leadership was overly focused on a separate, less generous acquisition offer made by Cleveland Cliffs Steel.

    USPS employees rally in Midtown demanding better wages and working conditions

    December 2, 2024 // USPS city carrier technician Mike Willits joined his peers in this rally in front of the post office on Speedway and Campbell. Willits and other postal workers said they don't approve of the tentative labor agreement as it stands. They argue the terms don't reflect a significant increase in pay, better working conditions, and more favorable hours. “We do the same route everyday and see the same customers and build relationships,” Willits said.

    AFSCME union organizes state-wide rally over UC patient care contract

    October 15, 2024 // Employees at the UCI Health Lakewood and Placentia Linda hospitals picketed similarly in front of their workplaces. Rallies were held simultaneously at all 10 UC campuses, including UC San Francisco and the UC San Diego, UC Davis and UCLA medical centers. Participants at UCI gathered at 8:30 a.m. to protest an ongoing impasse between the union and the UC system on negotiations for patient care technical and service employees, according to an Oct. 9 press release from AFSCME Local 3299.

    Postal workers to hold day of action, ID rallies planned

Members at the American Postal Workers Union national convention in July then passed her resolution for a rally. Rallies are scheduled across Idaho - including in Boise, Caldwell, and Idaho Falls. Workers will call for more public comment opportunities at Board of Governors meetings, better staffing and services, and more cooperation from management at the bargaining table.

    Texas State Employees Union workers rally for higher wages following return-to-office mandate

    September 18, 2024 // Over 50 UT workers from the University’s chapter of the Texas State Employees Union rallied for a $10,000 across-the-board wage increase on Friday at the West Mall and along Guadalupe Street. The union said the University has not acknowledged the union’s demands since its last rally in March, where members delivered a petition to the University for a $10,000 across-the-board raise. Meanwhile, the return-to-office mandate compounded with higher costs of living in Austin puts more strain on workers’ wages, union members said.

    Syracuse University employees to hold public rally after voting against contract offer

    August 26, 2024 // According to a spokesperson for the union, workers feel that management has not acknowledged the difficult work employees performed through COVID-19 to keep the university running. The four-year contract would have provided a 3%raise. When juxtaposed with the university's $1.85 billion endowment and the recent rise in total enrollment costs to $88,000 per year per student, union members felt it was an unfair proposal.

    July 18, 2024 // Disneyland union employees rallied outside the park’s entrance on Wednesday, July 17 in support of union contract negotiations seeking fair wages. The symbolic date marked the 69th anniversary of the park’s opening on July 17, 1955.

    REI Opens New Store in Ithaca Amid Union Busting Allegations

    July 2, 2024 // The rally will feature speeches from New York State Senator Lea Webb, Assembly Member Anna Kelles, Ithaca Common Council Members Kayla Matos and Phoebe Brown, and unionized REI workers. The event aims to draw attention to the difficulties REI workers have faced in negotiating their first contracts. Since 2022, ten REI stores have voted to unionize, including locations in SoHo, New York; Berkeley, California; Cleveland, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; Boston, Massachusetts; Durham, North Carolina; Maple Grove, Minnesota; Bellingham, Washington; Castleton, Indiana; and Santa Cruz, California. Workers at these stores have cited a desire for better wages, improved working conditions, and greater job security as reasons for unionizing.
