OPINION NLRB’s Pro Labor Bent OK with Sexist, Racist, Abusive Behavior

June 2, 2026 // Imagine if my co-worker called me a "gutter b****," "crack-head a**," and a "crack hoe." How about a male colleague calling me a "whore" and exposing his privates to me? Or let’s say a co- worker on strike yelled to me and others, "Go back to Africa, you bunch of f****** losers," and "f****** n***** scabs"? Should any of this behavior be tolerated by our employer? All of these are real, recent occurrences against women and Blacks at the hands of their union organizing colleagues, as the Institute for the American Worker catalogued.

Republic Services sues Teamsters over alleged actions on picket line as strike passes two week mark

July 17, 2025 // According to the suit, on the first day of the strike, picketers at a Revere facility swarmed a rental car and vans with management and 40 replacement workers, trapping them for three hours. Republic Services alleges that a union official slashed tires on two vans, while others rocked the vehicles and screamed profanities and homophobic slurs. (The suit claims that Revere police on scene took no action in response to the incident. A Revere police spokesperson didn't return a request for comment.) The suit alleges that on another occasion, the same union official spit in the face of a security guard hired by Republic Services. WBUR left messages with the union official seeking comment but did not hear back. The company claimed in the suit that Local 25 President Thomas Mari yelled at Republic General Manager Kenny Runge, words to the effect of “You think this is bad? Wait until we ramp it up."

Amazon Takes On the National Labor Relations Board

April 27, 2022 // In the 25 official objections Amazon filed with the board, the company argues that the NLRB’s “interference and mismanagement” prevented “a free and fair election” at its Staten Island facility. Among other things, Amazon alleges that the board arbitrarily excluded some workers from the bargaining unit in which the union had to show 30% support to hold a vote. The company also alleges the NLRB let union representatives distribute marijuana to workers in exchange for votes and intimidate workers opposed to collective bargaining. (The union’s lawyer told the Associated Press that the intimidation allegation is “patently absurd” and handing out marijuana “is no different from distributing free T-shirts and it certainly did not act to interfere with the election.”)
