Santa Cruz Markets Workers Call Off Strike
November 26, 2025 // The union — representing clerks and meat department workers from both locations in Santa Barbara and Goleta — said gains include wage increases, improvements in sick and bereavement leave, protection of health and welfare benefits, and more. Last week, workers said they planned to strike due to the employer’s alleged unfair labor practices, such as attempting to bribe union members to leave the union. Since the stores came under new management last year, six employees have quit due to poor working conditions, according to union member Erik Mendez. Mendez is in his seventh year working for the markets and currently works in the iconic Goleta location’s meat department.
Get on the Job and Organize with Inside Organizer School
November 23, 2025 // On November 6, a panel of labor organizers local to the Twin Cities gathered with the IOS at the East Side Freedom Library in St. Paul, Minn. The conversation centered on Brisack’s book, Get on the Job and Organize: Standing up for a Better Workplace and a Better World, which was released in April. Packed with labor history, the book is about Brisack’s experience salting at Starbucks, but also about their experience as an external organizer for union campaigns at Nissan and Tesla. The conversation was not limited to salting. During the event, panelists connected wisdom from the book to their own experiences organizing different industries in Minnesota, and shared tips and stories with audience members about organizing in general.
Albertsons, Kroger workers authorize strike, protesting unfair labor practices
June 13, 2025 // About 45,000 grocery workers have authorized a strike at Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions stores in Southern California to protest what they call unfair labor practices. The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) locals representing store workers announced on Monday that members have voted overwhelmingly in favor, giving their leaders authority to call a strike.

Grocery Store Workers To Decide Whether To Go On Strike After Labor Contract Expires
March 9, 2022 // “It’s unfortunate that substantial progress toward reaching an agreement was not made during our 12 total days of bargaining with the union,” Robert Branton, vice president of operations at Ralphs, said in a statement. “While the company made several wage proposals, the union continues to propose very costly items which impacts our ability to meet customer needs and remain competitive.”
