    Strike averted at N.J. hospital as nurses agree to contract

    June 10, 2025 // If an agreement wasn’t reached, the nurses were slated to walk off the job Monday. The union had informed the hospital of the planned strike on May 29, under a National Labor Relations Board requirement that prohibits strikes at health care facilities without at least 10 days’ notice. Before Sunday’s deal, the union had charged Hackensack Meridian Health was resisting contractual language that would limit the number of patients nurses could be assigned. Hackensack Meridian Health countered that it had presented a proposal prioritizing safe staffing, but that the union refused to let its members vote on it.

    Boston public school teachers reach tentative contract agreement with city

    March 20, 2025 // Teachers have been required to be certified in general education, special education and English as a second language. Some were often simultaneously teaching all three types of students in the same classroom. The union president says that this agreement will now increase classroom staffing levels. The next step is that the union members will vote if they want to ratify this new agreement, or they can go back to more bargaining sessions

    Stop & Shop and warehouse union reach tentative contract agreement

    March 2, 2025 // A strike involving Stop & Shop supermarkets was averted Friday with a tentative agreement. Stop & Shop and Teamsters Local 25 released a joint statement: "Teamsters Local 25 and Stop & Shop today reached a tentative agreement on a new, six-year contract for associates at Stop & Shop’s Freetown distribution center. As a result, and pending ratification, the Freetown distribution center will continue operations, preserving more than 900 union jobs.

    UAW workers at Stellantis could strike over Illinois plant reopening

    August 20, 2024 // Last month, the U.S. Energy Department said it planned to award Stellantis $334.8 million to convert the shuttered Belvidere Assembly plant to build EVs and $250 million to convert its Indiana Transmission Plant in Kokomo to produce EV components. The UAW said since 2023 "the company has gone back on its product commitments at Belvidere, and has been unreceptive in talks with the union to stay on track." The UAW added "this glaring violation of the contract imperils all of the other investment commitments the company has made."

    UAW and Stellantis reach tentative contract deal as union adds strike at Tennessee GM factory

    October 29, 2023 // Under the deal, the union said it saved jobs in Belvidere as well at an engine plant in Trenton, Michigan, and a machining factory in Toledo, Ohio. “We’ve done the impossible. We have moved mountains. We have reopened an assembly plant that was closed,” Fain said. The deal includes a commitment by Stellantis to build a new midsize truck at its factory in Belvidere, Illinois, that was slated to be closed. About 1,200 workers will be hired back, plus another 1,000 workers will be added for a new electric vehicle battery plant, the union said. “We're bringing back both combustion vehicles and electric vehicle jobs to Belvidere,” Fain said.

    Art museum and workers in dispute over scheduled pay raises

    July 7, 2023 // The raises were part of the contract agreement that ended the 2022 strike. “It’s really a punch in the gut for a lot of folks,” said Adam Rizzo, president of the PMA union, an affiliate of AFSCME DC47. The disagreement involves a differing interpretation in contract language about longevity pay increase between the union and their managers, which became clear in a meeting between the parties on Wednesday, according to Rizzo.
