Steve Parker, president and CEO of BDS, said in a message to employees Tuesday afternoon: "We are also expanding the use of third-party support for certain jobs and assessing opportunities to streamline factory operations. And we’re welcoming back teammates who are crossing the picket line as we continue to hear from more teammates who tell us they are ready to come back to work."
Boeing St. Louis to train permanent replacements as machinists strike enters third month
October 6, 2025 // The company announced Sept. 4 that it was starting the process to hire permanent replacement workers for manufacturing jobs to replace union members who have been on strike at the three defense plants in the St. Louis area for 60 days. The International Association of Machinists Union District 837 has about 3,200 members who manufacture munitions, assemble fighter jets and other aircrafts and make composite parts for the Boeing 777X commercial aircraft.

Boeing hires replacement workers as defense unit strike enters second month
September 8, 2025 // The company had offered a 20% general wage increase, a $5,000 ratification bonus and other improvements. Boeing said the increases could average about 40% taking into account other improvements. The increases would bring average IAM 837 machinist pay to more than $102,000 from $75,000, according to a note from Jefferies last month. Boeing’s defense unit contributed about 30% of the company’s $42 billion in revenue in the first half of this year.

November 5, 2024 // In the meantime, the clerks union that consists of 65 members is adding its voice of malcontent. "Our position currently right now is that we are the lowest paid Butte-Silver Bow employees. Our employees are 12-13 on up, and what we’re looking for is making sure that these have a livable wage and making sure that they have health insurance and those types of things," says Jennifer Kerns, a county administration assistant and vice president of the Local 372. Kerns says so far, union members have voted down the current contract twice and will take their third and final vote next week. In her time with the union, she says she has never seen the clerks vote down a contract.
