GE workers rally for better pay, job security
October 26, 2022 // Hundreds of General Electric workers from plants around the country held a rally in Schenectady on Tuesday to call for better protection and compensation ahead of contract negotiations in 2023. Workers said the company needs to stop outsourcing jobs to other countries, raise wages in response to rising inflation, and protect retirement benefits. Employees are also concerned about the company’s plan to split into three next year. One will focus on aviation, another on healthcare, and another on energy.

March 18, 2022 // Too often, for unions, the customers are themselves rather than the public, which is why the state should be taking advantage of retirements by focusing on modernizing, reorganizing, retooling, and outsourcing as much as possible. The major advantage in choosing among hiring private employees/services is that change can be made quickly to accommodate the needs of customers. Not working well? Terminate the contract and find a better solution in the marketplace.

Hundreds of unionized caregivers go on strike at McKenzie-Willamette
December 6, 2021 // Hundreds of union workers at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center walked out Monday morning at 7 a.m. The hospital caregivers, represented by SEIU 49, have held ongoing negotiations and condcuted a two-day strike in early October. The union said progress has not been made on their demands, which include: affordable healthcare, higher wages, and additional PTO or COVID protection payments.
