Apple Store in New Jersey Votes Against Unionizing
May 13, 2024 // Neither unionized Apple store has yet reached a contract with the company. Employees at the location in Towson, Maryland, who organized with the International Association of Machinists, voted Saturday to authorize a potential strike over what the union alleges has been a refusal by Apple to fairly negotiate. Outstanding issues driving the possible work stoppage include work-life balance, unpredictable scheduling and pay, the IAM said in an emailed statement. A date when workers could walk out “will be determined,” the union said.
Apple Store in New Jersey with over 100 employees petitions to unionize
April 12, 2024 // According to the unionization committee at Apple Short Hills in New Jersey, the group has asked Apple not to interfere in the efforts and to allow employees “to freely determine for themselves whether to form a union.” Apple responded by saying that it’s “dedicated to providing an excellent experience” for its customers and teams.
St. Louis-area cannabis workers win the right to review ballots in union election

Places for People workers call for company support in unionization efforts

Union organizers said they have not filed for union certification with the National Labor Relations Board as efforts are ongoing. They said they have not received recognition or support for unionization from the Places for People leadership board, either. If their unionization effort is successful, organizers said they are looking to be able to bargain for more equity in pay, time off and other health care benefits.

St. Louis Public Radio workers to unionize
January 19, 2023 // St. Louis Public Radio (STLPR) is licensed to the University of Missouri System and operated by UMSL. STLPR broadcasts as NPR affiliate KWMU 90.7 FM, as well as KMST 88.5 FM in Rolla and WQUB 90.3 FM in Quincy, Illinois, and streaming channels KWMU-2 jazz and KWMU-3 classical, as well as producing web and podcast content. STLPR has 60 full- and part-time employees, according to an UMSL spokesman. The STLPR Guild intends to represent nonsupervisory employees among the station's newsroom, events, marketing, development and support staff, totaling about 42 people, according to Rachel Lippmann, a guild organizer and the station's justice correspondent. "We expect the exact shape of the unit to be a topic of conversation and discussion," she told the Business Journal in an email. More than 75% of the proposed bargaining unit signed the statement of interest, Lippmann said.
St. Louis Apple Store abandons plans to unionize due to alleged ‘increased hostility’
November 28, 2022 // IAM previously filed an “Unfair Labor Practice charge at the NLRB against Apple for requiring the St. Louis Apple store employees to attend a captive audience meeting and making threats of reprisal if the employees choose to organize with the IAM.” Interestingly, IAM was who organized the first Apple Store in the US that successfully unionized in Maryland. But the situation changed quickly in St. Louis. As reported by Bloomberg, the staff has now withdrawn its plan to move forward with the process.
