Hartford teacher wins labor complaint against union
September 6, 2023 // Grande was disciplined by the Board of Education after two colleagues complained about his reaction to mandatory training on privilege. He was issued a letter of reprimand, saying he had made inappropriate and unprofessional comments during the training. Grande has pushed back against that reprimand saying he was asked his opinion on the training and gave an honest answer. HFT did file for arbitration on Grande’s behalf after they were made aware of their duty to fair representation, but it was too late, with more than six months elapsing between the second grievance denial and filing for arbitration, so their request was denied.

President Biden Sides Against Union Rank-and-File
April 18, 2022 // Of course, siding against workers is not the best look politically. Neither is shutting down transparency. The Biden Administration understandably rolled back the transparency regulation very quietly. Biden’s Labor Department killed the rule without fanfare on December 30 — the day before the New Year’s Eve holiday, when most union members and the press enjoyed Christmas vacations.

March 8, 2022 // Media reports indicate that the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT), St. Paul Federation of Educators (SPFE), and other associated unions have threatened to order a strike beginning Tuesday, March 8 if Minneapolis and St. Paul public school officials do not make various concessions demanded by union officials during bargaining talks.
