PODCAST: The Chicago Teachers Union and Their Path to Dictatorship | The New Frontline with Siena Rose
January 14, 2026 // This episode exposes the inherent corruption and political overreach of government unions as Siena dives into the latest controversy surrounding the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and their support for a Venezuela protest organized by socialist groups. Along with former NJEA President Sean Spiller's controversial campaign for NEA President and a new California tax proposal targeting billionaires, backed by the SEIU.
Chicago Public Schools spends a lot on empty desks
January 14, 2026 // CPS can do little to solve the problem as long as the Chicago Teachers Union forces it to keep these nearly empty schools open. CTU’s contract dictates the district not close schools, preferring high costs to house a few students to efficient use of resources and taxes that could better educate the children at those empty schools. While CPS enrollment continues to decline, taxpayers are on the hook for larger and larger district budgets each year to educate fewer and fewer students. Property taxes just jumped $25 million and rose 62% in 15 years thanks to the district’s ballooning spending.
Chicago Teachers Union protests trash fee hike while its president skips hers
December 15, 2025 // While constantly demanding the “wealthy” to pay their “fair share,” CTU’s president, Stacy Davis Gates, is notorious for repeatedly failing to pay her city water, sewer and trash bills. Despite her $273,105 income, she just can’t seem to pay her home utility bills on time. Now her union thinks a trash fee increase is a bad idea? Davis Gates’ past-due bills piled up for over three years and hit nearly $5,700 at one point, an open records request showed in 2024. The city invoked repeated delays in providing her billing information, and Davis Gates paid up just before the information was released to the Illinois Policy Institute.
‘Fracture’ in Chicago’s labor world complicates Mayor Brandon Johnson’s third budget fight
November 25, 2025 // That’s the signature hue of the Service Employees International Union, whose local affiliates were Johnson’s second-biggest labor backer in his 2023 election. Instead, the self-styled “most pro-worker mayor” in Chicago’s history has only seen one union vociferously cheer his $16.6 billion proposal, despite his hard line against layoffs: the red-shirted Chicago Teachers Union. It’s a sign of the times after a “fissure” between the once-close SEIU and CTU has grown into a full-blown “fracture,” said Ald. Desmon Yancy, a freshman progressive who previously served in SEIU leadership.
Federal probe demands Chicago Teachers Union explain missing financial audits since 2020
November 24, 2025 // The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is under investigation by the House Education and Workforce Committee for allegedly failing to show how it has spent union members’ money over the past five years, according to a letter obtained by Fox News Digital. The committee sent a letter to CTU President Stacy Davis Gates stating that evidence suggests the union failed to provide members with complete financial audits since 2020. "When unions flout these obligations, they betray the trust of the very people they are meant to serve … Every dollar paid by workers should serve their interests, not those of a select few operating in the shadows," the letter said.
Chicago Teachers Union lobby day costs taxpayers up to $19.3K
November 16, 2025 // Just 2-in-5 Chicago students read at grade level. They could have benefitted from a normal day of instruction. CTU chose a political agenda and personal gain above students. Each time it takes teachers out of the classroom to lobby, the costly burden impacts both students’ futures and taxpayers’ pockets.
Chicago Teachers Union spent $173K on poolside recording studio, won’t show audit to members
October 29, 2025 // CTU’s filing shows it spent $173,000 on a “recording studio” in New Mexico with no helpful context on its purpose. But it did have a pool. If CTU released its annual audits to members, as required in its internal rules, spending on a “recording studio” in New Mexico might have an explanation. But since it hasn’t released those audits since September 2020, members can only guess.
Chicago Teachers Union bosses make a lot more than members. Little of members’ dues pay for representation. See who makes what, here.
October 23, 2025 // More than 50 CTU officers and employees made $100,000 or more in the 2025 fiscal year. To put that in context, the median salary in Chicago is $65,250. The average Chicago teacher made $86,439 during the 2023-2024 school year. Not even 18% of CTU’s spending in its 2025 fiscal year was on representing teachers – what is supposed to be its core focus. That’s according to the union’s own numbers.
Chicago Teachers Union undermines yet another charter school
October 10, 2025 // There are currently 559 students enrolled in ChiArts, according to the district’s enrollment report for fall 2025. Four-in-five students are Black or Hispanic. Last year, the Acero Schools charter network announced it was closing seven of its 15 schools. As with ChiArts, CTU made a show of claiming it supported the parents and students affected by the closing of the seven Acero schools after its actions to hurt the school staffing, flexibility and ability to plan. Ultimately, CPS board members – appointed by CTU crony Mayor Brandon Johnson – voted to transition five of the Acero schools into district-run schools by the 2026-2027 school year. The absorbed schools will no longer be charters.
Parental Rights Groups Rip Teachers Union Bosses Boycotting Target Instead Of Helping Kids
September 4, 2025 // Weingarten stated the union “rarely engage[s] in this type of action, but we’re doing so here because Target betrayed promises to communities of color throughout the United States.” However, a recent report from Defending Education (DE) found that AFT has funneled millions of dollars in membership dues toward political activism, including to organizations such as the Trevor Project, an organization that supports “affirming” gender-confused children.
