Many Rank-and-File UC Grad Student Workers Are Unhappy With Tentative Agreement
December 26, 2022 // More than two-thirds (68%) of Student Researchers United (SRU)-UAW members approved the tentative agreement, while about 62% of UAW-2865 members backed the proposal. Support among SRU-UAW voters ranged from 19% at U.C. Santa Cruz to 86% at U.C. Berkeley Lab. For UAW-2865, U.C. San Diego (73%) showed the strongest support for the agreement, while just one in five U.C. Santa Cruz voters approved the deal.
COOK COUNTY COLLEGE TEACHERS UNION SETS STRIKE DATE BEFORE OCTOBER’S END
October 26, 2022 // Cook County College Teachers Union leaders said they will announce a strike date to members Oct. 24 ahead of planned informational pickets at city colleges and a strike rally set for Oct. 27. The work stoppage would keep 77,000 students out of classes. The strike authorized by 92% of CCCTU members Oct. 6 would shut down Chicago’s seven community colleges and satellite sites to secure contract concessions for greater housing security and child care options for students, in addition to reducing class sizes and increasing staff salaries.

Former St. Louis postal union president sentenced for embezzling union funds
July 1, 2022 // ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - A former president of a local postal workers union was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of house arrest for embezzling $80,000 by U.S. District Judge Rodney Sippel. Scott E. Rodgers, 51, embezzled a total of $80,756 and was also ordered to pay back the money. Rodgers became president of Postal Mail Handlers Local 314 in 2016 and has made four unauthorized ATM withdrawals up until April 2020. Officials said the withdrawals were made from the union account using the union debit card for personal purchases including meals, fuel, transportation, shopping, and travel. MFA union ratifies its first contract
June 30, 2022 // The MFA Union represents all non-managerial employees who are not already represented by another collective bargaining agreement, and includes hourly front-of-house staff and part-time educators as well as members of administrative, technical, curatorial and conservation departments. Union leaders said the salary minimums will improve pay equity across departments and raise salaries up to industry standards. Sacramento schools again at risk of financial distress with enrollment declines, new contracts
April 26, 2022 // Sacramento City Unified School District is again facing financial distress just weeks after it approved labor agreements to end its eight-day teacher strike, Sacramento county education officials said last week. The Sacramento Office of Education gave the district's budget a negative certification, stating the contracts and the strike itself would cost the district millions of dollars and could threaten insolvency.
