More than 75,000 Kaiser Permanente workers threaten strike if labor agreement not reached
September 25, 2023 // The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions warned Kaiser that more than 75,000 workers will strike in early October if an agreement is not reached by the end of next week. The unions say understaffing has led to dangerous wait times for patients. Kaiser Permanente is the largest nonprofit health-care organization in the U.S. serving nearly 13 million patients. Kaiser has called the unions’ claims misleading and urged employees to resist a call for a strike.
Dignity Health security officers vote to unionize
June 7, 2023 // The results have not been certified by the National Labor Relations Board. If results are certified, full-time and regular part-time emergency management safety officers, public safety security officers, security officers, and security officer leads employed by Dignity at 40 health facilities in California will negotiate their first contract. The vote comes after more than 18,000 healthcare workers at Dignity Health approved a contract that secured an election for security officers.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Workers Claim ‘Huge Win’ in Vote to Unionize
February 16, 2023 // The vote – 55% of workers supported joining SEIU-UHW – applies to a variety of healthcare job classes, including licensed vocational nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory care practitioners, pharmacy technicians, imaging assistants, certified phlebotomy technicians, healthcare partners, surgical technologists, unit clerks and other frontline workers. This is the fourth group of healthcare workers in the San Diego area to join SEIU-UHW recently. Workers at three Fresenius dialysis clinics voted to join the union last month. Union officials argued that healthcare workers at Sharp Grossmont have struggled with staffing shortages, safety concerns and below-market wages even as their jobs became more dangerous due to the pandemic.

The frontline workers who joined include licensed vocational nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory care practitioners, pharmacy technicians, imaging assistants, certified phlebotomy technicians, healthcare partners, surgical technologists, unit clerks and more job classes. The union says this is the fourth group from the San Diego area to join recently. They say workers at three Fresenius dialysis clinics in the area joined last month.
