    Promotoras successfully unionize at Westwood nonprofit Re:Vision

    November 10, 2025 // Promotora is a Spanish word which literally translates to “promoter.” They are community health workers. Re:Vision’s promotoras provide food and health education to their community, staff a no-cost grocery store and teach their neighbors how to grow produce at home. The nonprofit has employed a promotora model for community health since 2010. Del Hierro became executive director in 2022. The majority of the organization’s promotoras joined UFCW Local 7, the local chapter of the United Food & Commercial Workers labor union. This move gives the promotoras more leverage in negotiations with Re:Vision management.

    Cheesman Park cafe closes abruptly amid staff unionization effort

    October 14, 2025 // The Secret Garden Bar & Cafe closed abruptly during service on Friday morning after workers began petitioning passers-by about their efforts to form a union. City Street Investors opened Secret Garden a year ago, next to its company headquarters at the Tears–McFarlane House, 1290 Williams St., a historic mansion adjacent to Cheesman Park in Denver. But barista Tess Devillier told the Denver Post that the company grew frustrated by employee attempts to unionize earlier this year.

    King Soopers Employees Hit Union Officials with New Federal Charges for Illegal Strike Fine Threats

    September 11, 2025 // This isn’t the first time UFCW Local 7 officials are alleged to have violated federal law. In 2022, after the UFCW ordered a strike, several employees filed charges against Local 7 officials for hitting them with fines despite being non-union members. In two cases where the employees received free legal aid from Foundation staff attorneys, union enforcers backed down from their fines rather than face discipline from the NLRB.

    COLORADO: Safeway and Albertsons union members vote to strike

    June 4, 2025 // The ULP strike is protesting against what UFCW Local 7 says are unfair practices, such as refusing to offer retroactive wage increases and benefit contributions, bypassing the union to deal directly with a worker regarding grievances, and covering up an illegal no-poaching agreement with Kroger during the 2022 King Soopers strike.

    Safeway, Albertsons union workers to vote next weekend on possible strike

    May 28, 2025 // According to UFCW Local 7, which represents the union workers of Safeway and Albertsons, the company and union have been negotiating for eight months, most recently meeting on Friday, May 23. The union stated in an update posted to Facebook that Safeway agreed to “important language items” sought by the bargaining committee, “including a new drug and alcohol rehabilitation policy and protection of Drive Up and Go shopper work.”

    Colorado King Soopers and Union reach deal to end strikes, resume negotiations

    February 19, 2025 // On Monday night, UFCW Local 7 said a “return-to-work” settlement was secured for all striking workers. According to UFCW Local 7, the settlement includes an agreement that King Soopers cannot implement an offer for at least 100 days and will not lock workers out during this time.

    February 9, 2025 // King Soopers claims they have proposed a “last, best and final offer” that includes $180 million in additional wages, comprehensive and affordable healthcare benefits, a $4.50 per hour wage increase for top rate associates, and pension stability to protect retirement security. “We’re committed to a fair contract that delivers real wage increases, affordable healthcare, and pension stability—just like we always have," King Soopers president Joe Kelley said. “But we won’t be pressured by illegal actions that hurt our stores, our associates, or the communities that rely on us.”
