    Kaiser readies for pharmacy, lab worker strike as nurse walkout continues

    February 4, 2026 // Kaiser Permanente urged members on Tuesday to get laboratory tests done this week after unions representing pharmacy and lab workers filed to begin striking in Southern California on Monday and an ongoing strike by thousands of nurses and other health workers continued into a second week.

    Kaiser labor talks stall, raising fears of another strike

    January 1, 2026 // Talks between United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals and the Oakland-based health care giant have broken down amid sharply different accounts of why negotiations stalled. The union says Kaiser officials unlawfully walked away from negotiations. Kaiser did pause the talks, Elissa Harrington, a spokesperson for Kaiser in the East Bay, confirmed in an email. She said the decision came after an unnamed labor leader went outside formal bargaining channels and threatened to release what Kaiser described as damaging information about the company if an agreement was not reached. Harrington said the union “has refused to share the information it claims to have.”

    Kaiser Permanente employees return to work after 5-day strike

    October 21, 2025 // The strike was part of a walkout involving 31,000 members of the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP). Members include registered nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, rehab therapists, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, midwives and other specialty health workers. Picketing was held at three facilities in San Diego County: Zion Medical Center in Grantville, San Diego Medical Center in Kearny Mesa and San Marcos Medical Center.

    November 5, 2021 // Almost 32,000 Kaiser Permanente workers plan to kick off an open-ended strike on Nov. 15, according to Thursday night announcements from the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP), United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7600 and the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Healthcare Professionals (OFNHP).
