    October 16, 2025 // To determine the most unionized locations in the U.S., researchers at Construction Coverage analyzed data from UnionStats.com and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The researchers ranked metropolitan statistical areas according to total union members as a percentage of total employment. In addition to union membership, the researchers also included statistics on union representation, which is the share of workers whose terms of work are collectively negotiated (whether or not they are union members). Only metropolitan statistical areas with available data were included in the analysis.

    Evergreen school employees strike as districts across the Northwest start heading back to class

    August 27, 2025 // The union is asking for paraeducators to be paid for the full time they are at school, even if students need assistance after classes end. They’re also asking for release time to do union work, among other benefits. Union representatives said the district has so far been inflexible with their requests as well as bargaining dates.

    Hundreds of Bellingham PeaceHealth Hospital union workers stage walkout, including doctors

    May 14, 2025 // About 900 employees, including doctors, medical techs, and housekeeping staff, all participated in the walkout. The strike does not include nurses. The hospital’s Union of American Physicians and Dentists and SEIU1199NW union say they’re pushing for a new contract that includes higher pay and better benefits.

    Canada’s Labor Minister ends coast-to-coast port labor turmoil, forcing unions back to work

    November 14, 2024 // Stephen Lamar, CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association, told CNBC it is relieved operations will resume at Canada’s three busiest ports and hopes a long-term, mutually beneficial agreement comes out of the negotiations. “The lockouts of the Canadian ports were causing ships to divert and contributing to congestion and delays throughout North America. As Canada faces reduced rail capacity from mandatory winter train length safety restrictions, and the U.S. West Coast faces two-year high rail dwell times, further disruptions would greatly strain the transportation networks,” Lamar said.
