Healthy Living Appeals to NLRB Not to Recognize Its Labor Union

August 14, 2026 // A number of overqualified job seekers — some with no retail experience and some who had recently relocated to areas around Healthy Living stores — had taken positions with the company. The small grocery chain, which employs 300 people in its South Burlington, Williston and Saratoga Springs, N.Y., stores, was staffed so well that it didn’t have to recruit workers for the 2025 holiday season, as it had each year for the previous decade.

Starbucks defends union organizer’s firing before Fifth Circuit

February 3, 2026 // The NLRB found that Starbucks illegally fired James Schenk, a shift supervisor at a Starbucks store in the Albany, New York, area who in 2021 and 2022 helped lead a campaign to unionize the store. Starbucks fired Schenk in August 2022 after he opened a letter from the NLRB addressed to the store. But the board found that his termination, as well as previous disciplinary actions for sending profane messages in an employee Snapchat group and failing to complete four assigned tasks by the end of a shift, were retaliation for his union activism.

Cook Board president, officials back efforts to unionize at Chicago Botanic Garden

November 20, 2025 // But Garden officials said in a statement following Preckwinkle’s press conference that they will not agree to card-check neutrality and instead want to engage in a more formal process. “Federal labor law establishes a process for employees to exercise their rights in this regard by making their choice for or against representation in a secret ballot election administered and supervised by the National Labor Relations Board,” the statement said. “Were the Garden to recognize a labor union based solely on ‘card check neutrality,’ — i.e., without giving our employees a chance to be informed and have the ability to hold a secret ballot election on the issue — we would, in our view, be depriving our workers of their rights on this important issue.”

A group of Dash’s Market employees want to unionize, but not everyone agrees

July 8, 2025 // “This is not a big corporation. This is a local, family-owned grocery chain, so I don't feel like it's necessary,” Dash's employee Adam Colin said in front of the Hertel store. “They're very understanding. They give you the time off when you need it. They're just giving you free food sometimes if you work long enough,” added another employee outside of the store. Dash’s President Mark Mahoney was also outside with employees who oppose the union but declined to comment when asked about the claims.
