Oregon: Clackamas County’s largest public employee union votes to strike
April 4, 2025 // The union represents more than 1,000 public employees. They work in a variety of departments, including public health, parole and probation and the parks district. Union leaders have yet to provide the county with a formal 10-day notice that they intend to strike, but said in an email that members have authorized them to provide the notice “at any time.”
Costco Increases Pay to Over $30 an Hour for Most Store Workers
January 30, 2025 // Workers at the bottom of the scale will get raises of 50 cents to $20, according to the memo. The changes apply to employees at non-union locations. Costco, which is based in Issaquah, Washington, declined to comment. The company and the union that represents thousands of its workers are in negotiations over a new collective bargaining contract. The current contract is set to expire on Friday, and Costco Teamsters — which represents less than 10% of the company’s roughly 219,000 employees in the US — has voted to authorize a strike, demanding better pay and benefits.

January 20, 2025 // Costco workers affiliated with the Teamsters union have voted in favor of going on strike. The strike will start if no deal is reached by the January 31 deadline. Teamsters president Sean O'Brien has pledged to win "the strongest contract in Costco's history."

Union wants management off the GM assembly line or workers will strike
November 4, 2024 // “If I didn’t have to get national authorization, I would have struck on Oct. 2,” LeTourneau said. Two other GM plants – Bowling Green (Kentucky) GM that produces Corvettes and Tonawonda Engine in New York are also refusing to accept management on their lines. Both plants refused to “exploit temporary workers,” LeTourneau said. “If you’re not going to hire them, they’re not helping us.” The problem is that part-time temporary workers who work 32 hours a week can be strung along as temps “forever” because there’s no provision to hire them. They have to be temps for nine months in order to get hired, LeTourneau said.

November 3, 2024 // During the rally, the union members held a voice vote to authorize a strike, FOX29 reported, but the union is expected to take a formal vote during a meeting in the next week. Union leaders will give Mayor Cherelle Parker's administration a 10-day notice about a potential strike, 6ABC reported. In August, District Council 33 submitted a 17-page proposal for a four-year contract that included pay raises, better pension plans, alternate work schedules, pandemic relief and a change in the residency requirement that most workers live in the city.
UAW Local 2209 initiates strike authorization vote at GM’s Fort Wayne plant
October 30, 2024 // United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2209 is set to hold a critical vote on Wednesday regarding a potential strike at General Motors’ Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana. The plant produces full-size trucks, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The vote stems from ongoing tensions between the union and GM over how temporary workers are treated at the facility. The union’s leadership has expressed frustration over GM’s decision to lay off approximately 250 temporary workers at the end of September following an inability to reach an agreement to extend their employment
LA County workers’ union sets strike for Oct. 10, while county calls it ‘unwarranted’
September 26, 2024 // A union representing 55,000 Los Angeles County workers announced on Tuesday, Sept. 24 that it has authorized a strike set for Oct. 10, unless county management comes back to the negotiating table. About 1,000 members of the SEIU 721 union came to the Board of Supervisors meeting to inform the county of its decision. Workers that would be affected by a strike are from numerous county departments, including: Children & Family Services, Mental Health, Public Health, Public Social Services, Parks & Recreation, Beaches & Harbors, LA County Library, Clerk/Registrar-Recorder, County Coroner and Unincorporated Street Services.
