UAW and Stellantis reach tentative contract deal as union adds strike at Tennessee GM factory

We have moved mountains. We have reopened an assembly plant that was closed,” Fain said. The deal includes a commitment by Stellantis to build a new midsize truck at its factory in Belvidere, Illinois, that was slated to be closed. About 1,200 workers will be hired back, plus another 1,000 workers will be added for a new electric vehicle battery plant, the union said. “We're bringing back both combustion vehicles and electric vehicle jobs to Belvidere,” Fain said.
Ford makes new offer in US labor dispute, GM furloughs more workers
October 4, 2023 // The UAW declined comment Tuesday on Ford's new offer. The UAW said on Monday it presented a new contract offer to General Motors (GM.N). GM said despite the offer "significant gaps remain." The UAW also held a new round of bargaining with Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI) Monday. Earlier Tuesday, GM said it furloughed 163 UAW workers at GM’s Toledo Propulsion Systems plant that makes transmissions for both the automaker's Missouri and Lansing Delta Township assembly plants that are on strike.

September 18, 2023 // Normally companies give partial pay to workers when a plant is idled. But because in this case it's due to a strike, the companies say there is no such compensation. General Motors said in a statement, "We are working under an expired agreement at Fairfax. Unfortunately, there are no provisions that allow for company-provided SUB-pay in this circumstance." Fain accused the companies of choosing temporary layoffs in an effort to intimidate workers. The UAW says it will make sure that affected workers don't go without an income.
