All of these work groups except United Airlines flight attendants (who remain in negotiations) have seen significant wage increases in recent years. That hasn’t been enough to forestall infighting and accusations of corruption.

These “Article VII Charges” allege ‘willful violation’ of the union’s constitution including improper use of union funds for personal enrichment. This includes the allegation of having the union lease her an apartment without first certifying that she lived outside the area (the union can lease apartments for its officers to stay at in Dallas only if their primary residence is elsewhere).

    December 30, 2024 // Flight attendants at United Airlines, dockworkers on East Coast and Gulf Coast ports and locomotive engineers who operate NJ Transit commuter trains are all engaged in negotiations to reach new contacts. The International Longshoreman’s Association, known as the ILA, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen are the closest to potential strike dates in 2025.

    October 16, 2024 // Analysts at Anderson Economic Group estimated that the first month of Boeing's 33,000-worker strike, which started on September 13, cost the company and workers $5 billion. The last strike, in 2008, shuttered plants for eight weeks and hit revenue by an estimated $100 million per day. In regulatory filings Tuesday, Boeing announced plans to raise up to $35 billion. That includes a $10 billion credit agreement, while it may also sell up to $25 billion of securities.

    SkyWest Airlines facing federal lawsuit over alleged ‘fake company union’

    August 14, 2024 // SkyWest Airlines, the largest regional airline in North America, is facing legal action over an alleged “fake” company union that the airline operates and the allegedly retaliatory firings of flight attendants who were engaged in union organizing efforts. A lawsuit was filed by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) in October 2023. The US Department of Labor also filed a lawsuit last month against the company over the “company union”, alleging SkyWest Inflight Association (SIA) did not perform its legal duties as a representative agency and barred two employees from running in an election for leadership positions due to their support for an independent union at the airline.

    American Airlines flight attendants move closer to strike as Alaska reaches deal

    June 26, 2024 // The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA union, which covers the work group at Alaska, said on Friday that the bargaining group had reached a tentative agreement with the airline under federal mediation. Details of the contract have not been publicly released, and the agreement still must be ratified by the union's leadership and general membership.

    June 24, 2024 // The deal likely contains a significant pay raise, which has been a common demand across the airline industry and sought by unions whose members in some cases have not seen a pay increase in years. In April, the union announced to members it was seeking pay raises of between 43% to 56%, depending upon seniority, through 2026. Those pay raises would include back pay covering a period dating back a year and a half that they’ve worked under the terms of the previous contract.

    June 7, 2024 // CEO Robert Isom offered flight attendants immediate 17% wage increases earlier Wednesday as contract talks continue without a deal, bringing the prospect of a strike closer. The airline and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants have struggled to reach a new contract agreement, differing on major issues, such as pay. Flight attendants haven’t received contract raises since before the pandemic.
