December 20, 2023 // UFCW said Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, “agreed to neutrality, paving the way for workers” to unionize. “We are glad to see Ben & Jerry’s and Unilever live up to their stated values by recognizing their workers’ right to unionize instead of forcing a long and drawn out election process,” said UFCW Local 371 President Ronald M. Petronella. Ben & Jerry’s has regularly advocated for social causes such as ending modern slavery and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Nurses and technical staff unionize at Central Vermont Medical Center
August 24, 2023 // Currently, each local union bargains separately with the administration at their respective hospital rather than at the network level. Kate Roche, a nurse educator, got involved in the effort to unionize after realizing she was having similar conversations with many other CVMC nurses who were facing challenges around staffing levels, compensation and how decisions in their departments were being made. “I saw all these people try on their own unsuccessfully to impact major change,” Roche said. “I figured, we have to try something else.”

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont Independent who has been a vocal supporter of Starbucks labor organizers, congratulated the Ben & Jerry’s workers at a press conference in his home city.

UAW workers to vote on CNH offer 8 months after strike began
January 4, 2023 // More than 1,000 striking CNH Industrial workers will soon vote on an offer from the maker of construction and agricultural equipment for the first time since they walked off the job eight months ago. The United Auto Workers union said this week that it decided to put the company’s “upgraded last, best and final offer” to a vote, but the union didn’t offer any details of what is included in it.
