But according to the Teamsters union -- which represents 340,000 UPS (NYSE:UPS) drivers -- the “illegal” plan violates the contract between UPS and the Teamsters signed in August 2023, and would be less than what rank-and-file Teamsters now earn and could continue to make over the life of the current agreement.

    Anne Arundel Community College professors unionize for more clarity, structure

    April 1, 2025 // The union, called Riverhawk Educators United, earned recognition from the state employee relations board late last week with 62% of faculty in support. Now, the group will start negotiating its first official contract. Nicole Williams, chair of the human services department, said she’s hoping the union will bring more structure and clarity. “We have policies, but we need more policies. There's structure, but we need more structure,” Williams told WYPR.

    MD bill may give faculty the right to unionize

Foley added faculty at Maryland community colleges are already able to organize unions. Since 2012, the number of unionized faculty across the country has grown more than 7%, with more than a quarter of all faculty belonging to a union. More than 80% of unionized college faculty members are nontenured. Foley, a former vice president of the Communications Workers of America, said despite perceptions, unions are not just for blue collar workers.

The offer has already been accepted by more than 50,000 people, Bloomberg reported, though a judge has since temporarily delayed the Feb. 6 deadline. On Thursday, the Office of Personnel Management asked federal agencies to draw up lists of their poorest-performing employees by March 7.

    REI Greensboro, NC, workers vote to unionize

    February 3, 2025 // Greensboro workers began the process after REI reduced the workforce by 275 company wide in October 2023. Most of the cuts were "leads," who are the most experienced in the chain, with the Greensboro store losing two. According to the RWDSU, Greensboro joins 10 others fighting for fair pay, guaranteed hours, a path to full-time status, and transfer opportunities within REI. The vote to unionize was conducted Friday by the National Labor Relations Board.

    Massachusetts Ballot Measure Would Shove Rideshare Workers Into the Arms of Unions

    October 12, 2024 // Even as independent contractors, however, unions still threaten drivers’ flexibility. Unions might negotiate standardized rates, mandatory breaks, or limits on working hours, which, while beneficial in some industries, could restrict a driver’s ability to capitalize on peak demand periods or adjust their work hours to fit personal schedule. The risk of such changes only magnifies when one considers that the Ballot Measure only requires a 25% vote from drivers to form a union that would represent them as a whole. This means that the 30% of drivers working full-time, who would benefit most from being treated like employees, might be able to dictate policy for all rideshare drivers.

    GM Laying Off Hundreds Of Part-Time Temps At Two US Plants

    October 2, 2024 // The vast majority of them are stationed at Fort Wayne Assembly in Indiana where the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are built. This site employs roughly 4,000 people across three shifts, and of these employees, approximately 250 are part-time temporary workers. The remaining part-time temporary workers losing their jobs are at the Bowling Green site, which produces the Chevrolet Corvette and employs 1,458 people.
