Dr. Oz points to powerful California unions as ‘biggest beneficiaries’ in Medicaid fraud scheme

August 10, 2026 // The CMS Administrator claims that there is no incentive to crackdown on fraud because unions are able to increase their bottom-line if more people are able to bill Medicaid. “These incentives create a vicious cycle: Lax program integrity standards mean more demand for caregivers, more caregivers mean more union dues, and more union dues mean more donations for the elected officials who are supposed to be guarding the cash register,” he added. While joining a union is supposed to be completely optional, Oz accused some of California’s most influential labor organizations of forcing healthcare workers to join instead of offering a choice.

CALIFORNIA: IHSS providers tricked into staying, overpaying

June 1, 2026 // Another provider who called for help navigating the union’s intentionally complicated opt-out process reported she was paying $45 a month in dues in addition to $53 a month for the dental insurance for just herself. That’s a whopping $98 dollars to hold onto dental insurance that could be purchased from an independent third party at a fraction of the cost. SEIU Local 2015 and United Domestic Workers (UDW), AFSMCE Local 3930 are the two unions representing more than a half million providers. Collectively, they rake in over $100 million in dues every year — money spent on inflated salaries for its leaders and political activity while providing lackluster representation. Yet the “discounted” dental packages can cost up to a third of a provider’s gross pay if they are only allotted a few hours a month.

Unionized nursing homes in deep-blue state trail the pack as analysis reveals ratings gap

May 28, 2026 // California nursing homes with unionized staff received lower average federal quality ratings than facilities without confirmed union presence, according to a new report. "Union presence in a CMS-certified registered home appears to lower its CMS rating by almost 10 percent," a new report published by the Center for Union Facts (CUF), a right-of-center organization critical of organized labor, reviewed by Fox News Digital found. The Department of Health and Human Services, through its Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, scores nursing homes on a five-star scale based on how well they perform on health inspections, the number of staff present relative to patients, how much care patients are provided and the overall quality of care residents receive.

Seven years after Janus, public employees still can’t quit their unions

October 24, 2025 // Seven years after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Janus v. AFSCME decision established that public employees cannot be compelled to pay union dues, a troubling pattern has emerged: unions nationwide are systematically obstructing workers’ rights to resign. Consider Chaquan May, a California in-home caregiver, who has spent more than two years trying to resign from SEIU Local 2015.

Op-Ed: SEIU Brings Progressive Union Politics to Philly

June 4, 2024 // While serving as president of SEIU Local 2015, Verrett faced one of the largest union staff labor strikes in American history after accusations of union-busting, surveillance, assault, and intimidation. Verrett’s dedication to SEIU’s progressive politics, however, is unmatched. In the words of the union’s new leader, America’s “ugly, insidious, anti-black racist structures” inform her decision to make “eradicating structural and anti-black racism a core strategy” of union operations.

Anti-labor group calls out SEIU for pattern of workplace misconduct: report

September 1, 2023 // The group rolled out a media campaign the same day, purchasing a TV commercial and a billboard in Times Square that read “Who’s America’s Worst Boss?” The sign featured pictures of SEIU President Mary Kay Henry alongside comedian and TV host Ellen DeGeneres and pop star Lizzo — both of whom have had workplace complaints lodged against them. Several male leaders at the union have received promotions in recent years despite being accused of harassment, according to the group’s report.
