The New York and California laws show a modified version of that strategy: lobbying friendly states to enact policies the unions cannot get passed at the federal level. The courts are now blocking this overreach.

These allegations are serious. They speak not only to how decisions were made, but to whether educators had clear information about how their own money was being deployed. At the same time, the New Jersey Policy Institute has filed complaints with both the IRS and the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, asking regulators to examine whether the union’s funding structures and political accounts complied with federal and state rules.

Amtrak’s unionized workers are getting $900 holiday bonuses after their managers gave up half of theirs
December 15, 2025 // The Wall Street Journal reported that around 246 Amtrak managers gave up part of their bonuses that totaled $16.2 million. The DOT did not provide additional comment or confirm those figures when reached by Business Insider. In its announcement, the DOT touted Amtrak's record-breaking year. The national passenger rail service had a record 34.5 million customer trips in the fiscal year that ended in September, posting a record adjusted ticket revenue of $2.7 billion.

December 15, 2025 // Twelve workers in total may be impacted by the vote, though the employer may still file objections to union certification in the next few days and the eligibility of one potential member has been questioned and will be decided at a later date. The show represents the fourth Warner Bros. Television production that the union has successfully organized this year. Production Assistants United previously unionized The Pitt (where it now has a labor contract) and on Dec. 4 won NLRB elections for the shows All American and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
