Teacher group says communication with APS broke down after School Board allowed unionizing
November 1, 2022 // Arlington Public Schools became the second school district in Virginia to do so, after the General Assembly in 2020 repealed a ban on school employees bargaining collectively. Before that, AEA advocated for public school employees but could not guarantee benefits through legally binding contracts. This month, organization members told the School Board that its approval of the collective bargaining resolution shut out staff, and since then, communication has worsened between employees and APS’s top leaders.

October 18, 2022 // Murphy, a Democrat, did strike a deal with several state worker unions to mitigate their costs, enraging local leaders and unions representing town and county workers who warn of higher property taxes and layoffs. In the end, New Jersey taxpayers will shoulder the lion’s share of the rise in costs, but exactly how much remains a mystery. The Murphy administration hasn’t provided an exact amount and did not answer questions from legislative officials during budget negotiations.
United Steelworkers hold rally for new labor contract
October 10, 2022 // U.S Steel and its unions are currently fighting over a new labor contract. Typically contracts culminate to four years in length and include things like wage increases amongst other things. The rally held today included steelworkers from many of the mines expressing their grievances.
Old Town Voodoo Doughnut employees vote to unionize
October 3, 2022 // Voodoo Doughnut was founded by Portlanders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon at the Old Town location in 2003. The Portland Business Journal reported that the San Francisco-based equity firm Fundamental Capital bought a large stake in the company in 2017. However, Kenneth and Pogson told PBJ that they retained “significant ownership and influence in the company.” Doughnut Workers United and Voodoo Doughnut itself did not immediately respond to KOIN 6’s request for comment.
Report: Kroger eyes possibility of Ohio employee strike

Even if every unemployed person with experience in the durable goods manufacturing industry were employed, the industry would only fill 65% of the vacant jobs. Conversely, in the transportation, construction, and mining industries, there is a labor surplus. There are more unemployed workers with experience in their respective industry than there are open jobs.
Strike ends as union workers reach agreement with FireKing
August 4, 2022 // Jay Dennis, business agent for Teamsters Local No. 89, represents FireKing workers. He said although an agreement has been reached with the company, the union is planning to pursue Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the employer. 4 Atlantic City casinos reach deal with union, avert strike
July 5, 2022 // The main union for Atlantic City casino workers reached agreements on new contracts with four casinos on Thursday, providing for what one worker called "big raises" and labor peace that will avoid a strike on Fourth of July weekend, one of the casinos’ busiest of the year.
